DMFT is an acronym for Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy. It’s a program conceived by Nova Southeastern University. According to Nova: Graduates of the D.M.F.T. program will be trained to work in multiple settings on multiple levels in agencies, treatment facilities, medical facilities, and other locations that provide clinical services.

As such, they may be ideal for therapists that want to work directly with families in private practice, outpatient care centers, as part of an office health practitioners, or for a government agency. Marriage and Family Therapy DMFT students must complete at least one 3-credit practicum course (with a clinical or supervision focus). Prior to enrolling in the required practicum course, students must complete the Practicum Preparation Process (PPP) and receive approval to enroll in this course.
